what is your barometer?

Some days I wish we could bring back the days of imperfection — the days where life wasn't so "picture perfect." Everyone wasn't looking for the best lighting for a selfie or creating a picture-worthy moment. It's the real, indescribable moments that are priceless!

As technology progresses, I'm compelled to ask, are we as a people progressing in our minds? As a follower of Jesus Christ, I can't help but question, what is shaping our mindset?

I am an honest perfectionist. I'm the girl that wants things to be blemish-free. I've looked at different opportunities and counted myself out because either I or the opportunity didn't exactly meet every requirement on the checklist.

Through personal time with God and blunt advice from my mom, I am often reminded that life has never been about getting to the destination, but it's about the journey. I could scroll on social media all day and continue to discount my priceless gifts to my own disadvantage. That's only a detriment to my own well being. If I get out of my own comfort zone and let go of "perfection," then I will experience life to the fullest.

As I have grown up with social media, the endless YouTube videos, Instagram photos/videos, Tweets, Facebook posts have caused me to set a standard for what I deem as post-worthy or doable. Overtime, social media subconsciously became my barometer of what's acceptable or not. Some 3000 years ago, a man (Jesus) willingly became the barometer for me. Lately, Ive been making some adjustments to get things back to how God intended for them to be. God through Jesus Christ has become my barometer again. Through the Word of God and the soft whispers and leading of the Holy Spirit, Ive been progressing with a new mindset. Again, I ask what is shaping your mindset? Who or what is your barometer?
