the era of the female
Originally published on January 17, 2019
Months ago, it occurred to me that we are in the era of "the female." In our modern 2019, it is practically impossible to go for a prolonged period of time without hearing about the latest allegation of some sort. Women across America have been violated, then hushed by guilt, agony, shame, or fear for years now. Unfortunately, I even questioned if I was harassed in the workplace at one point. As a young budding lady, I am proud that other women have found their strength and courage to say #Timesup.
I can't help but acknowledge one underlying trait that pervades through the mindset of our socially charged society: pride. Such pride can cause us to overlook the men in our lives. It is necessary to talk about the injustices of women today in an effort to change our society. It is also necessary to acknowledge the men in our society who are walking in integrity and love in and out of the public eye. Harassment of any kind is not to be tolerated, but there are many who didn't stand for it back when it wasn't the next discussion-worthy movement.
In the same breath that I celebrate the women that who found the courage and strength to speak out against such violators, I also celebrate the men who have and continue to act in love and respect towards others. Men have a place in our society and shouldn't be devalued or depreciated. Men of integrity and respect matter. As we continue on into 2019, it is my mission to give honor when honor is due. I encourage you to do the same. Honor those around you who are walking in integrity. Acknowledgement goes a long way.
